No. 9 Notre Dame leads Florida State 38-20 after three quarters in Tallahassee, Florida. What was looking to be an exciting game got out of hand in the third quarter, even though the Seminoles started the half hot.
After trailing the Fighting Irish 17-14 at halftime, Florida State opened the second half with a quick scoring drive as Jordan Travis hit Ja’Khi Douglas for a 60-yard touchdown pass to give the Noles a 20-17 lead. Doak Campbell Stadium came to life, and it looked like Notre Dame had a real fight on its hands. But then the rest of the quarter happened. Quarterback Jack Coan started connecting on deep balls to Kevin Austin, and Kyren Williams began finding space to roam after being hemmed in for the first half. Then FSU coach Mike Norvell made a debatable decision to go for it on fourth-and-2 at the Florida State 33 while trailing 31-20. The decision backfired as Florida State didn’t convert, and the Irish answered with a quick touchdown.
